Young Singer of the Year 2025 – Competition Details
Dunvant Male Choir proudly announces its prestigious Young Singer of the Year Competition, continuing our long tradition of fostering classical vocal talent in Wales. Many previous winners have progressed to distinguished careers in classical music and choral performance.
Eligibility
- Ages 15-19 (as of competition date)
- Residents or students who live and study in South Wales
Competition Format
Preliminary Round
- Performance of two contrasting pieces
- Professional accompanist provided (own accompanist permitted)
- Brief rehearsal time allocated
Final Round
- Qualified candidates may retain one piece from preliminaries
- Extended rehearsal time with accompanist
- Judging based on musical interpretation and performance quality
Important Information
- Entries are limited to 30 applicants
- First Prize: £300
- Three runner up prizes of £100
- Professional adjudication panel
- Feedback available upon request
- Accompaniment optional if appropriate for chosen repertoire

The preliminary and final rounds both take place at:
Gowerton School, Cecil Rd, Gowerton, Swansea SA4 3DL

Dunvant Male Choir Young Singer of the Year 2025 – CompetitionTerms and Conditions
Please read the following information:
- Entrants for each category must be within the age limits of 15 to 19 on the 21st January 2025 and living in or attending a school within South Wales.
- Entry is limted to a maximum of 30 applicants.
- The closing date for entries is Satueday 18th January 2025.
- The competition entries and performances in each round will be assessed by a panel of judges based on their interpretation of the performance submitted. The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into over this decision. Feedback will be provided where appropriate in each round upon request.
- Competitors should sing two contrasting pieces in the preliminary round and may retain one of these pieces in the final, if successful.
- An accompanist will be provided for both rounds, though you are welcome to use your own accompanist. You will not be penalised for not using an accompanist in either round, if appropriate for your recital.
- There will be a very limited time for rehearsal in the preliminary round and a longer session will be allocated to rehearse with the accompanist should you successfully gain a place to perform in the final
- Official photographs of the event will be taken in line with the consent given on our online entry form. You may withdraw this consent at any future date in writing by e-mailing us at contact@dunvantchoir.wales.
- The winner of the competition should make every effort to mention the Dunvant Male Choir when mentioning their success
- Guidelines set out in the Dunvant Male Choir Privacy Policy will apply throughout the competition and to all involved in the competition.
- Entry into the competition is deemed to be acceptance of these terms and conditions..
The Preliminary round will be held on 25th January 2024 and the Final on Friday 21st March. Please make sure that you are available for both dates before applying
