The Tour of Wales – a Look Back
Looking back and forwards
The innovative first ever “Tour of Wales” was the brainchild of Dunvant Chorister, Huw Morris.
“It has been a privilege to have sung in arguably the best acoustic venues in Wales in the six cathedrals. Dunvant Male Choir’s Tour of Wales reflects how ambitious we are and has convinced many prospective choristers to join and enjoy singing with Dunvant Male Choir”.
At the end of August 2024, Dunvant and Brecon Male Voice Choirs are guests singing at the 2024 North America Festival of Wales, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, taking the best of Welsh male voice choral singing to thousands of expatriates.
A standing ovation
A standing ovation from the packed audience in Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall on 27th July 2024 crowned the final part of Dunvant Male Choir’s Tour of Wales.
This first ever ‘Tour of Wales’ saw Dunvant perform at Wales’ six Anglican Cathedrals at Brecon, St Asaph, Bangor, Newport, St David’s and Llandaff, before returning to Swansea for their ‘homecoming’ concert.
Choirs and soloists
At the Brangwyn Concert, Dunvant were joined by internationally renowned tenor, Rhys Meirion, Aberhonddu & District, and Haverfordwest Male Voice Choirs. Each had performed with Dunvant at their local Cathedrals on the Tour. The combined 140 choristers provided a rich and powerful sound from the largest combined male choir to sing in Swansea for many years.
“Dunvant choristers thoroughly enjoyed performing at these fabulous venues”, notes Dunvant Choir Chairman, Glyndwr Prideaux. “We sang hymns and arias, folk, stage, and pop tunes in a variety of music in Welsh and English. The Dunvant Male Choir’s Tour of Wales celebrated our musical heritage whilst encouraging new choristers to join us. We reached new audiences – whose appreciation included enthusiastic applause and standing ovations.”
Young singers and rising stars
Young singers and musicians were also invited to perform with Dunvant Male Choir at ‘Tour of Wales’ concerts, including former winners of the Dunvant Young Singer of the Year awards. The rising stars impressed audiences, showcasing the wealth of upcoming Welsh musical talent.
